PM Mia Amor Mottley of Barbados Pledges Staunch Support for Dominica

The Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Amor Mottley, has pledged her country’s staunch support for Dominica. She commended the Dominican government for her resilience in the face of several environmental disasters, and added that Dominica occupies a place of pride in the Caribbean as a whole.

PM Mottley made this statement during the swearing-in of new cabinet ministers at the Windsor Park Stadium on Tuesday.

Mottley said the Dominican peoples had weathered many storms of gigantic proportions but remain standing. “It is a matter of pride, Prime Minister [Skerrit], not just for you in Dominica, but it’s a matter of pride for us all,” she said. “You have borne the brunt of what the world has foisted on us in respect to climate crisis.”

Mottley affirmed that based on the mandate foistered on her by the people of Barbados, she remains committed to promoting regional integration and comradeship among sister nations. According to her, the Barbadian government will continue “to work in solidarity with the people of the Caribbean, and it is for this reason I have come today, to share with you in this moment of renewal and reaffirmation.”

The visiting leader vowed that as Dominica continues to combat her challenges, “you can count on Barbados being there with you.”
