PM Roosevelt Skerrit Receives COVID-19 Vaccine Shot; Portsmouth Mayor Too
PM Roosevelt Skerrit has received his COVID-19 vaccine shot on Tuesday, while Portsmouth Mayor Kerry Prince got vaccinated on Monday. Skerrit got the AstraZeneca vaccine around 8:30 am at the Dominica China Friendship Hospital while other government officials followed suit. Workers at the Office of the Prime Minister also received their vaccination and encouraged others to do the same.
Skerrit said the shot was administered by very experienced nurses and that it was over in less than a minute. He said every Dominican must voluntary take the shot to safeguard their health and that of entire community and the country. He said Dominicans must not wait to be mandated to do so by governments of other countries they travel to, adding that there is enough vaccine to take care of 25,000 Dominicans for two doses each.
The prime minister stated that he got the vaccine to silence conspiracy theorists and to assure members of the public that the vaccine is safe and effective. He said he is aware that many people are waiting for him to take it first before coming forward to do the same. He stated that those people can come forward to get the vaccination now that he took the shots himself.
Portsmouth Mayor Kerry Prince assured the public that she has also taken the shot and that it is safe and effective. She urged people to spread the word and come out enmasse to get the shots, adding that it is necessary for the common wellbeing of the people. She also thanked the Skerrit-led administration for facilitating the mass COVID-19 vaccination initiative.
