PM Skerrit Accedes to the Requests of Protesting DSC Students and Staffs

Following the massive demonstrations staged by students and staffs of the Dominica State College (DSC), PM Roosevelt Skerrit has acceded to their protest demands. He berated the protesters for staging a protest during a scheduled examination period and without formally documenting their core demands.

The prime minister said he has constituted a group of persons to oversee the requests of the DSC students and employees.

The protesters were demanding organizational and structural reforms to the state college. They demanded better pay for the staffs, renovation of building facilities, and appointment of a board of directors and other key management staffs among other things.

The students protested from Monday to Wednesday but still settled down to start their examinations against earlier expectations. They threaten that they will continue with their protests after completing their examinations and until the government meets their demands.

While condemning the protesters for their actions, PM Skerrit said the government will consider their demands and resolve them in no time. He also stated that he will begin to pay more attention to the daily management and progress of the institution to enable it meet its academic goals and standards.

He urged every stakeholder to cooperate with the government to reposition the DSC and make it a regional envy for all concerned.
