PM Skerrit Accuses Opposition of Ploy to Invoke Sanctions on CBI Programme

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has accused the opposition of undermining the integrity of the Dominican Citizenship by Investment (CBI) programme. He said the proponents of the Where the Money Gone campaign are working towards having the CBI initiative banned by the international community. He, therefore, urged voters to vote out the opposition at the coming general elections.

Skerrit made this disclosure at the launching of Dr. Adis King as the DLP candidate for St. Joseph on Sunday. He termed what the opposition is doing as “treasonous” and stated that their ultimate objective is to have foreign governments impose sanctions on Dominica on account of the CBI programme.

“They want countries to deny free access to holders of Dominican passports…so that more countries will impose business restrictions on holders of Dominican passports,” the prime minister said. “You see what these guys are seeking to do to our country and economy. So with the help of Lennox Linton and UWP, these agents will destroy our CBI programme; and passports of countries to which they are associated will be given a free VIP welcome, while Dominicans will now have to apply for visas.”

Skerrit said that the opposition is upset that Dominica has several international hotel brands in the construction and coming to fruition stage through the CBI programme. He said several countries around the region and the world benefit greatly when they sign on with the company behind the constructions in the country, but the opposition, on the other hand, have delivered zero on the programme.

“This constant undermining of the national interest has to stop and it will be stopped in the next general elections in Dominica,” Skerrit maintained. “I do not want any slim or even majority in parliament ladies and gentlemen…I do not want 16 or 18 seats, I want all the seats in parliament with the next elections.”

Meanwhile, DLP candidate for St. Joseph constituency, Dr. Adis King, revealed her plans for education by ensuring that every household has a university graduate. She said she will pursue the youths training center being constructed by the government, and also help transform the tourism sector in the communities.
