PM Roosevelt Skerrit has applauded the organizers of the 2019 World Creole Music Festival (WCMF) for the overall success of the annual festival. The prime minister said he rated the organizers very high for the success of the festival, saying he also received lots of feedback from patrons and tourists who described the event as one of the best in recent years.
Skerrit said he is congratulating the WCMF organizers for a job well done on his own behalf and that of that of the government. He praised Marva Williams, events director for the Discover Dominica Authority (DDA), for the extraordinary skills she demonstrated to make the annual event a great success. He said Williams surprised him a lot, and also dumbfounded critics who thought the celebrations was going to flop.
“Those of us who go to the event only see the end product but we don’t appreciate the work that has to be done months ahead prior to the event,” Skerrit said. “It’s a huge undertaking to coordinate all of these activities, different stakeholders, different service providers, different artistes, different managers, different bands, different groups, airline tickets, hotel accommodations…”
The prime minister equally appreciated the efforts of the Minister of Tourism, Robert Tonge, and that of the Director of Tourism and CEO of Discover Dominica Authority, Colin Piper, as well as numerous committee members who worked hand-in-hand to ensure the success of the WCMF. Skerrit expressed hopes that next year’s event will be bigger and greater because the proposed international airport will have been constructed to facilitate air access into Dominica, and more hotel facilities will be available to accommodate guests.
The 21st edition of the WCMF held for three days at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium from October 25 to 27, and it featured top artistes such as Asa Banton, Colton T, and Buju Banton among other local, regional and international music artistes.
