PM Skerrit Discusses Police Salary at Graduation of New Police Recruits

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said he will meet with police authorities over remuneration concerns very soon. He made this revelation at the graduation ceremony of 28 new police recruits which held at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium. He noted that reclassification would be the best and most rewarding option at raising salary scales for police officers.

Meanwhile, Minister for National Security, Rayburn Blackmoore, said the government will equip police officers with security technologies to enable them better discharge their duties to the people. He added that plans are in the pipeline to construct new buildings to accommodate at least 200 police officers close to the present police headquarters.

Police Chief Daniel Carbon also tasked the new recruits to be hardworking and efficient at carrying out their duties.

Chief Police Training Instructor, Inspector Anthony Lawrence, urged the graduands of the 34th Police Recruits Course to remember their duty to state and God. He encouraged them to demonstrate the same commitments they exhibited during their training throughout their police career. He told them they joined the police service when the country needed them most and when the police force is under greater scrutiny from members of the public.

“You will face numerous challenges and will be called upon to make tough decisions as police officers,” Inspector Lawrence warned. “You may be prosecuted for doing your duty or the subject of disciplinary proceeding for the manner in which you perform that duty but never fail to do your duty to God and country.”

Many of the new officers received recognition awards for their outstanding performances during the six months course.
