PM Skerrit Praises CREAD’s Actionable Framework for Climate Resilience
PM Roosevelt Skerrit credited the Climate Resilience Execution Agency for Dominica (CREAD) for its actionable framework for climate resilience in the country. He said the climate agency has laid the plan on which sustainable environmental growth can be built on the Island. He added that the agency has also put Dominica in international limelight because of its climate resilience efforts.
“CREAD has done a remarkable job in setting the framework and specific actions for building resilience within our country,” Skerrit said. “It has brought tremendous international recognition and attention to Dominica’s efforts and mobilization of resources and interest in our resilience agenda…”
The prime minister said the government’s climate resilience framework is all-encompassing. He said it is weaved into the national strategy that includes fiscal policy, geographical space, health systems, education systems, and forest and marine spaces. He stated that resilience for Dominica goes beyond physical climatic protections to all aspects of Dominican life and culture.
“I think I will give CREAD high marks for its work,” he remarked.
Skerrit said he looks forward to integrating CREAD’s resilience agenda into every government ministry and department. He said the CREAD system will be integrated into the framework of the Ministry of Planning to “ensure that the legacy interventions by CREAD are paid attention to.” He said the ministry will lead the effort to implement the agency’s works into other aspects of various departments across the country.
The CEO of CREAD, Francine Baron, thanked the prime minister for his encouraging words and promised that the agency will intensify its efforts to make Dominica the first climate-resilient country in the world. She said physical infrastructure such as roads, bridges, buildings, and parks will be reinforced against climatic shocks to protect people and the country’s assets.
