PM Skerrit puts Task Force to Grant Work Permits to Haitians & Dominica Republicans

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has revealed that a task force will be constituted to grant work permits to eligible Haitians and Dominica Republicans in the Commonwealth of Dominica. He said that as from Monday or Tuesday, the task force will begin to evaluate the applications for work permits and grant them as they consider best.

Skerrit said non-Dominican nationals working in the country without a work permit will not be deported – and that their work permits will be worked out in a systematic and transparent manner. He said citizens of other countries living in Dominica are eligible for work permits if their documentations are in other, but this will not be to the disadvantage of Dominican citizens resident in the Nature Isle.

We are going to put a more robust and transparent process in place to facilitate the approvals of the work permits. I will put in a task force to review the applications that are outstanding and to quickly address the issue of work permits. Not only for the Haitians, but also the citizens from the Dominican Republic who are here as well.

The prime minister said he had been concerned about the plight of people working in Dominica without the necessary documentation. He said this issue will be formalized as soon as possible without further delay.

So we will facilitate the work permits and we will put a task force in place hopefully by Monday or Tuesday. …so we don’t place the people of Dominica at risk or a disadvantage when it comes to our engagement with other countries and entities.
