PM Skerrit to Make an Announcement on Sept. 19; New Housing Begins In Marigot on Sept. 1

Following the launching of Gregory Riviere as the DLP candidate for Marigot constituency on Sunday, PM Roosevelt Skerrit said more candidates will be unveiled for other constituencies in the coming weeks ahead of the coming general elections. For instance, Dr. Adis King is billed to launch on August 25 as the DLP candidate for St. Joseph constituency, and Cozier Frederick will launch on September 8 as the DLP candidate for Salybia constituency.

But beyond these official launches, PM Skerrit disclosed that he has an important announcement to make on September 19 to the entire nation. He said he will give pointers to this important event within the week, but urged everyone to clear their calendar in readiness for that date.

“I want the entire nation…to block out the evening of Thursday, September 19th in their diaries,” PM Skerrit. “That will be a very special day in Dominica.”

In a related development, newly launched candidate for Marigot, Gregory Riviere, said the construction of new housing units will commence in the constituency on September 1. Riviere disclosed that more than 10 new houses are coming to the Melville Hall area and about 27 others are coming to the Breezy Hills/Sam Gutter area of Marigot.

He revealed that the government has concluded negotiations for the construction of the new houses with an international agency, and “I can tell that construction will begin by the 1st of September,” he promised.

In his speech on Sunday during his launch, Riviere said he will place a high priority on education and agriculture if elected as the parliamentary representative for Marigot. He promised the construction of new fishing boats, the repairs of existing fishing equipment, the development of farming lands, and even the introduction of farming methods such as greenhouse and hydroponics as well as the revival of backyard farming among others.
