PM Skerrit to Receive the ‘Order of José Martí’, During Official Visit to Cuba
Prime Minister, Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit is heading a government delegation on an official visit to the Republic of Cuba from April 24-27, 2022.
On Tuesday, April 26, the Dominican leader will receive the Order of José Martí during a ceremony at the Palace of the Revolution (Palacio de la Revolución) in Havana. He will also participate in a ceremony to lay wreaths at the José Martí Memorial at the Plaza de la Revolución.
The Order of José Martí is named after the Cuban National Hero, renowned poet, journalist and writer, who became the symbol of Cuba’s struggle for independence from Spain.
Prime Minister Skerrit will participate in high-level talks with H.E Miguel Dias-Canel Bermudez, President of the Republic of Cuba, and other government ministers. The delegation is scheduled to make appearances at the Latin American School of Medicine, the Fidel Castro Center, the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology; and meet with Dominicans studying in Cuba.
The Prime Minister is accompanied by Hon. Fidel Grant, Minister of the Blue and Green Economy, Agriculture and National Food Security, Hon. Gregory Riviere, Minister of State in the Ministry of the Blue and Green Economy, Agriculture and National Food Security, Hon. Dr. Adis King, Minister of Youth Development and Empowerment, Youth at Risk, Gender Affairs, Seniors Security and Dominicans with Disabilities, and Mrs. Barbara Dailey, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Business and Diaspora Relations. H.E Matthew Walter, Dominica’s Ambassador to the Republic of Cuba, is also part of the delegation.
Hon. Reginald Austrie, Senior Minister and Minister for Housing and Urban Development, is the Acting Prime Minister.
