Police Arrest Two Men over Kernelle Benjamin Death; Man Shot Dead in Grand Bay

Two men have been arrested in connection with the unfortunate killing of 18-year-old Kernelle Benjamin. The teenager from Portsmouth was declared missing by her mother on May 24 and her body was found buried in a shallow grave on May 30, not far from the Portsmouth hospital.

Kernelle’s mother said she was last sighted at the Chance area before her disappearance a week ago. The names of the two men arrested by the police have not been released, but the authorities said they are working to establish a motive for the killing before bringing the perpetrators to justice.

The police are also investigating the death of a baby girl found buried in a plastic bag below a house in Union Estate, Pointe Michel. Police said the fact that the baby was found buried in a plastic bag under a house indicates that there was foul-play, and that the persons behind the girl’s death and unholy burial must be brought to book.

Meanwhile, 28-year-old Mervin Bertrand from Campbell was shot dead in Grand Bay on May 29. The police said the incident happened around 9:30 pm at Lalay area and that they are on the trails of the perpetrators. The police cautioned people to always report offenders or disputes to law enforcement and to not take matters into their own hands in order to prevent gun violence and related loss of lives.
