Police Burn Over 9,988 Kg of Cannabis and 606 Kg of Cocaine in Dominica
On Friday, May 24, 2024, the Drugs Squad of the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (CDPF) destroyed a significant quantity of illegal drugs by fire. The destroyed drugs included 9,988 kilograms of cannabis with an estimated street value of EC$14,982,000 and 606.64 kilograms of cocaine valued at EC$16,075,960. The total estimated value of the drugs destroyed was over EC$30 million.
The destruction took place at the Special Service Unit compound at Morne Bruce. The drugs had been seized during various police operations over time and some had been kept in police custody for exhibit purposes in ongoing court cases. Police Inspector Fixton Henderson reported that the CDPF remains committed to enforcing the Drugs Prevention and Misuse Act of Dominica and to reducing the impact of illegal drugs on Dominican society.
Inspector Henderson emphasized the transparency of the police force’s actions and expressed gratitude to the public for their continued support. He highlighted the importance of community assistance in the police’s efforts to intercept and eliminate dangerous substances and illegal firearms linked to the drug trade.
The CDPF urges the public to continue their cooperation and to report any suspicious activities related to drugs. Inspector Henderson also advised the public to make wise choices and say no to drugs, reinforcing the police force’s commitment to maintaining public safety and reducing drug-related harm in the community.
This operation demonstrates the CDPF’s ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and misuse in Dominica, and the significant impact these efforts have on reducing the availability of illegal substances in the region.
