Police Chief Assures on Readiness to Manage Critical Situations during Storm

The Dominica Police Force assures of their readiness to manage critical situations during Tropical Storm Dorian. Acting Deputy Chief of Police, Lincoln Corbette, made this disclosure while responding to questions about the preparations being put in place by government agencies to safeguard lives and property through the storm.

Corbette assured citizens that the police force is fully prepared to respond to any eventualities that may occur as a result of the storm. He also assured that no matter what happens during any other storms in this hurricane season, the police management team is well able to contain the situations.

According to the top police officer, the DPF has been training extensively in several areas which include –

  • Disaster management
  • Weapons training
  • Internal security
  • Search and rescue
  • Emergency radio operations, and
  • Telecommunications

“We have activated our major disaster plan, and in furtherance of this we have prepared an operation order,” Corbette said. “That order will direct and outline the manner in which the police carry out their functions and duties in response to the impending Tropical Storm Dorian. The police will be out to maintain a visible presence throughout the island as long as it is safe to do so. And after the passage of the storm, we’ll also be out to ensure that the city of Roseau, the town of Portsmouth, and the entire country are secure.”

The police officer called on members of the public to cooperate with officers to ensure that they perform their duties in a professional and effective manner. He also tasked members of the public to listen to all the advisories from the Office of Disaster Management.

“I also want to take this opportunity to ask all off-duty officers to report to their respective stations and stations – the Chief has already done this, but I’m just making sure that for those who did not hear, that they get the message at this time,” he added. “So we wish at this time for the best for everyone and we pray that Tropical Storm Dorian’s impact on the island will be very minimal.”
