Police Condemn Frequent Killings; Pastor Condemns Gun Proliferation

Following the unresolved murders of Lester Charles and Ron Garth Jolly within the space of one week, police authorities said senseless killings must stop in Dominica. Deputy Police Chief Lincoln Corbette said aggrieved people must find alternative means to resolve their differences instead of taking the laws into their own lands.

“The police force condemns these violent behaviours of the public and is committed to employ every means necessary to address these crimes,” Corbette said. “These killings must stop, no one is above the law and there must be other means by which members of the public can resolve their differences.”

The police top brass said a total of eight murders have been recorded in the country in 2022. He noted that detectives will fish out the killers of Charles and Jolly as well as others who were killed across the island. He said the perpetrators will be brought to speedy justice, and urged members of the public to provide police with useful information that can lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.

Meanwhile, Pastor Randy Rodney of the Kingdom Connection blamed the incessant killings on gun proliferation across the country. He blamed the police for failing at community policing, saying the authorities do not respond when citizens notify them of any unpleasant incident. The religious leader urged the police to be more responsive in their duties to the people, and added that people should embrace dialogue and peace in settling their differences.
