Police Outline Safety Protocols for WCMF at Windsor Park Stadium

During a press briefing on Wednesday, Assistant Commissioner of Police Jeffrey James outlined heightened security plans for the upcoming World Creole Music Festival (WCMF) at Windsor Park Sports Stadium. A dedicated Venue Operation Centre, staffed by senior officials from agencies including the Discover Dominica Authority and the police, will manage security operations throughout the festival.

James confirmed a separate police command center at the stadium’s Clem John and Kelleb Laurent Stand, ensuring quick assistance for patrons. “This is to allow for patrons who require assistance from the police,” he noted, adding that an assistant superintendent will lead the on-ground command with support from inspectors, private security officers, and volunteers.

Strict security checks will be in place, with prohibited items like firearms, knives, illegal drugs, and offensive weapons banned from the venue. “We implore firearm holders to secure their firearms before entering,” he emphasized, warning that even licensed holders would not be permitted to bring firearms inside.

Deputy Police Chief Lincoln Corbette added that all police rest days are canceled for the event, reinforcing a large police presence at Windsor Park, Roseau, and surrounding areas. “We want patrons to feel safe to enjoy themselves without fear,” Corbette said. Officers on vacation have been called back to reinforce security during the festival, set to take place from October 25 to 27.

The WCMF, featuring three nights of diverse musical acts, will see robust security measures to maintain a safe environment, reflecting Dominica’s commitment to a secure and successful festival experience for attendees.
