Police Praise Public Cooperation for Peaceful 2025 Carnival Season

The 2025 Carnival celebrations in Dominica have ended, and law enforcement officials are commending the public for their role in maintaining peace and order during the festivities. Acting Chief of Police Davidson Valerie expressed gratitude for the high level of cooperation displayed by citizens and visitors alike, describing this year’s event as one of the most peaceful in recent memory.
Speaking at a post-Carnival press briefing, Valerie noted that despite the usual crowds and exuberance, the police recorded only a small number of arrests, none of which were linked to serious offenses. This, he said, was a direct result of proactive policing and the support of responsible revelers who understood the importance of preserving the positive spirit of Carnival.
We had a well-coordinated plan in place, but the most important factor was the level of cooperation we received from the public. People followed the guidelines, reported issues promptly, and most importantly, celebrated responsibly.

The acting police chief acknowledged that managing large events always comes with challenges, but highlighted that collaboration between police, event organizers, and communities played a critical role in the success of Carnival 2025. He praised the public for working with officers to swiftly address minor disturbances and prevent any escalation.
The police force deployed increased patrols and established enhanced surveillance in key areas, focusing on crowd control and reducing the chances of alcohol-fueled altercations. While a few incidents required intervention, Valerie stressed that there was no significant violence or major security breach reported throughout the celebrations.
In addition to law enforcement efforts, Valerie attributed part of the success to ongoing community outreach programs, which have been encouraging Dominicans to see public safety as a shared responsibility. As Carnival concluded, the Acting Chief expressed hope that this spirit of cooperation would continue into other national events, helping to build a culture of peaceful celebration across the island.
