Police Question Suspects over the Death of Chinese National in Portsmouth

The police have arrested several suspects in connection with the death of a Chinese national in Picard, Portsmouth. Forty-nine-year-old Zing Jian Yong was shot dead in what appeared to be a robbery attempt gone wrong.

The unfortunate incident occurred on February 4 at around 11:15 pm with video footage showing a hooded man attacking and shooting Yong.

The police reported that his unconscious body was taken to the Reginald Fitzroy Armour Hospital where doctors confirmed him dead. His body was then transported to the Lyndhurst Funeral Home to await autopsy.

Yong had been a long-standing member of the Picard community and the Chinese community mourned his demise. Foreign Affairs Minister Dr. Kenneth Darroux sympathized with the Chinese community and vowed that Yong’s killers will be fished out and brought to book. He assured that Dominica remains one of the safest places to live and do business in the world and noted that Yong’s death was an isolated case.

The police have not released the names of the arrested suspects and investigations are still ongoing. It is expected that they will make public their findings at the right time and the culprits charged to court for proper prosecution.
