Police Release Brian Linton Following Arrest for Alleged Threats to Roseau

Brian Linton, the sibling of Lennox Linton, was released without charges late yesterday after being detained by police over allegations of making threats to ignite fires in Roseau. Linton’s apprehension occurred during his routine visit to the Marigot Police Station, where he was required to sign as part of his bail conditions related to a prior incitement charge.

The arrest stemmed from suspicions tied to a gathering planned by the Concerned Citizens Movement set for Sunday, February 25, 2024, in Roseau, which authorities feared could result in violent acts and lawlessness, including threats of arson and an island-wide blackout aimed at facilitating crimes against individuals, notably the Minister of National Security.

Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (CDPF)‘s acting Police Chief Davidson Valerie, in a press briefing, disclosed the police’s receipt of intelligence from social media and other reliable sources about the potential for disorder linked to the upcoming event. Valerie noted meetings held with Lennox Linton and Nicholas George, a UWP Executive Member, to discuss the concerning rhetoric circulating online.

Brian Linton faced previous allegations for comments made during a radio show appearance in October 2020, which led to his arrest and charge for “incitement” in February 2022. His recent detainment was in connection with suspected plans to cause destruction at the UWP’s scheduled meeting.

Despite the heavy police presence at the meeting and warnings of a robust response to any disturbances, no evidence was found at Linton’s home following a search, resulting in his release after more than five hours of questioning.
