Police Solve 25 Burglary Cases with Seven Arrests; Three Men Shot in Fond Cole

Superintendent Davidson Valerie of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has said that 25 burglary cases occuring between September 2019 to February 2020 have been solved with the arrest of seven persons. Almost all the burglaries occurred in Canefield, Canefield East, and Roseau.

“Items predominantly stolen during those burglaries were television sets, laptop computers, cellular phones, jewelry, large sums of cash and Playstations, among others,” Valerie said. “During the investigation, six television sets, four laptops, eight cell phones, one computer screen, one Playstation game console, one Rolex watch, two gold chains, one pellet rifle, one pair of TN sneakers and EC $1100 in cash was recovered.”

The police superintendent revealed that all the suspects admitted to the crimes and this helped in solving the burglary cases. He disclosed that six of the offenders have been remanded in prison custody after they appeared before a magistrate in court, and that other suspects will soon appear in court after investigations are completed.

Meanwhile, police PRO, Simon Edwards, stated that the police is conducting investigations into a shooting incident where three men including a minor were shot in Fond Cole on late Tuesday evening. He said the victims were transported to the Dominica-China Friendship Hospital where the teenager was discharged after treatment but the two men were placed on admission.

Edwards said four firearms were seized and some individuals arrested in connection with the shooting incident. The suspects appeared at the magistrate court to be charged on Wednesday.

In another incident, 28-year-old Julian Burton of Mahaut has been admitted to the Dominica-China Friendship Hospital in critical condition after his Yamaha MT motorcycle collided with a Honda Civic car driven by 26-year-old Jahnaya Henry of Campeche in Grand Bay on Thursday night in Massacre. Witnesses said Burton was flung 55 feet high into the air before landing on a parapet where he sustained significant body injuries. Doctors are currently fighting to save his life.
