Police Suspect Suicide for Prison Inmate with Slashed Throat, Await Autopsy
Police said they are awaiting autopsy report into the death of Ronnie “Fireman” Francis who was found with a slashed throat at the Stock Farm Prison. Police authorities said late Francis had a history of mental illness and had been remanded at the prison for the crime of arson – maliciously setting fire to public property.
The 40-year-old native of Belle Vue Rawle was discovered in the bathroom on Monday night with his throat slashed and unresponsive in his own blood.
Police PRO, Inspector Simon Edwards, said the body was moved to the Accident and Emergency Departmetn of the Dominica China Friendship Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. He was then moved to the Lyndhurst Funeral Home to await autopsy.
Police had earlier ruled the death as a homicide, but later said they suspect suicide. However, they are awaiting post-mortem results to determine the exact cause of death. Meanwhile, investigations have commenced into the circumstances surrounding the death at the state prison facility.
