Police Warn Mischief-Makers to Stay Away During CITP and WCMF Celebrations
Police warned mischief-makers to stay away during CITP and WCMF celebrations. Police authorities led by Superintendent of Police in charge of the CID, Davidson Valerie, said no criminals or mischief-makers will go unpunished during the celebrations. He warned people who are planning on fomenting trouble to think twice and stay clear from the venue of the celebrations to avoid clashing with the law.
As patrons, tourists, and celebrants gather at the Botanical Gardens and Windsor Park Stadium for the Creole in the Park and World Creole Music Festival events slated for this weekend, police said they are stepping up their game in protecting lives and property. They said officers will be deployed to the venue of the events and mobile patrols will rove the area and surrounding communities to gather intelligence and ensure peace.
“The Criminal Investigation Department will be proactive in its effort at minimizing as far as it’s practicably possible any occurrence of criminal activity and violence in the city and surrounding communities,” Valerie said.
The police leadership urged members of the public to watch after themselves and shun violence during the celebrations. Residents are warned to secure their housing and tourists are encouraged to lock up their hotel rooms as well as secure cars in safe and lighted areas for better protection. The police warned people never to display expensive jewelry or anything that could attract thieves to their cars, and ATM users are advised not to use the money-dispensing machines at night or in isolated areas.
Assistant Superintendent of Police, Leanna Edwards, said most people will be subjected to body searches before accessing the venue of the conference. She said no weapons will be permitted into the venue to forestall violence.
“We will be firm with patrons carrying offensive weapons such as knives, cutlasses, scissors, ice picks, nails files, and utility multi-tools,” Edwards said. “Any one found carrying these weapons will e removed from the venue and dealt with according to law. Licensed firearms holders will not be allowed to access the venue with their firearms.”
Police Superintendent Richmond Valentine a venue operating center will be set up to manage security and ensure safety of everyone. He said “a senior police officer will be the team leader which also comprises a medical official, a representative of the Fire and Ambulance Service, a representative of the Office of Disaster Management, a communications officer and a diarist” will manage the center.
