President Charles Foundation Gives Cheque Donations to 18 Charities

President Charles Savarin’s 2018 fundraising dinner grossed a total $EC110,105 and 18 charity organizations in Dominica will benefit from the proceeds. A total of $EC99,000 was realised last year during the fundraiser – meaning that this year’s proceed is slightly higher. This year’s beneficiaries will be able to forge ahead with their humanitarian services with the donations given them by the president’s foundation.

Beneficiaries were presented with their cheque donations at the St. Alphonsus Parish Hall. Ten of the charity organizations benefitting from this year’s donations include –

  • Dominica Association of Persons with Disabilities (DAPD)
  • St. Jerome’s Ministry
  • Lupus Foundation
  • Dominica Council on Aging
  • R.E.A.C.H
  • House of Hope
  • St. Vincent De Paul Society (Roseau & Northern Branches)
  • The Social Centre (St. Ann’s Day Nursery)
  • Operation Youth Quake
  • Dominica Dementia Foundation

Eleven of the 18 charity organizations were given a total of $EC23,000 with the remaining funds set aside to be given to other institutions that representatives of the president’s foundation will visit this year and next. President Savarin revealed that proceeds from the fundraising for this year saw a net surplus of $EC68,612 as against the net surplus of $EC64,000 for last year.

Explaining some donations given out to organizations in the course of the year, President Savarin disclosed that $10,000 was given out to the Mahaut scout troop toward the completion of their den; $5,000 was given to the government of the Bahamas to help with recovery efforts following the devastations of Hurricane Dorian; $EC5,000 is set aside to help organizations who may come into sudden difficulties; and $10,000 reserved for the children’s Christmas party coming up later this year.

The president said the fundraising ceremony was a total success and urged members of the public and organizations to support the fundraising dinner for greater assistance towards public needs.
