President Charles Savarin’s Foundation Donates $36,500 To 16 Organizations

The President’s Charity Foundation coordinated by President Charles Savarin has donated EC$36,500 to 16 beneficiary organizations in Dominica. The charity foundation’s total donation this year is lesser than last year’s total donation of EC$46,000 – but the president explained that this is due to the COVID-19 pandemic and several canceled events.

The annual President’s Dinner for this year is canceled, and the yearly Children’s Christmas party hosted by the president is also cancelled in deference to health and safety protocols. The President’s Dinner is the major fundraising event for the President’s Charity Foundation and its cancelation this year signaled a lower revenue for the foundation.

Even then, the organizers of the annual fundraising dinner urged donors to rise up to their billing by donating to the foundation’s causes. Many of the sponsors played their parts and President Savarin acknowledged that some of the donors gave parts of their pledges long before the due date despite the economic impacts of the coronavirus situation across the world.

Savarin said he is happy that the President’s Charity Foundation is still able to support several organizations across Dominica in 2020, even though the fundraising events that could have generated funding for the foundation were canceled. He noted that some part donations given by some sponsors were added to the reserve funds held by the foundation for onward transmission to identified beneficiaries.

“It is the hope that the foundation will be able to host the dinner next year and be in a better financial position to make its usual donations,” President Savarin stated.

Some of the beneficiary organizations that benefitted from this year’s EC$36,500 donation are –

  • The Dominica Association of Persons with Disabilities (DADP)
  • St. Jerome’s Ministry
  • Dominica Council On Ageing (DCOA)
  • REACH
  • House of Hope
  • St. Vincent De Paul Society (Roseau and Northern Branches)
  • The Social Centre (St. Ann’s Day Nursery)
  • Operation Youth Quake
  • Mahaut Senior Citizen’s Home
  • Community Hostel Inc. (Grotto Home)
  • Workshop For the Blind
  • Dominica Infirmary
  • The Northern District Home for the Aged (Grange)
  • St.John’s Charity (Formerly knownas Care of the Elderly)
  • The Alpha Centre

In receiving their cheques, the beneficiaries expressed their thanks to the President’s Charity Foundation and look forward to a better year in 2021.
