President Savarin Presents Monetary Cheque and Materials to Alpha Centre
The President’ Charities Foundation has donated cash and educational materials to students of the Alpha Centre. President Charles Savarin who personally donated a cheque of $3,500 to Claudia Bellot, the outgoing chairperson of the centre, said he is happy to make the monetary contribution in person.
President Savarin normally visits Goodwill where the ceremony took place every December, but he postponed the scheduled 2019 December to January 2020 to coincide with the departure of Ms. Bellot from the centre. His Excellency credited the Alpha Centre for the tremendous work they have been doing in the areas of academics, workshops, and agricultural activities.
“I am particularly happy for the progress you are making in the agriculture programme,” the president said. “I think backyard gardening is something we should all [have], not just our institutions, our schools, but at our homes. I am happy for the work the Alpha Centre is doing to identify the special skills which you have, and to seek to reinforce them and develop them so that these skills developed can then, in turn, assist you in living a full and independent life.”
According to the president, no one needs estates or acres of land to succeed at agriculture; and backyard farming could provide subsistent livelihood.
