Prime Minister Skerrit Assesses Care Facilities for the Elderly

In a significant step towards improving care for the elderly, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit recently conducted visits to two prominent institutions in Dominica, the Grotto Home for the Homeless and the Dominica Infirmary.

During these visits, the Prime Minister sought to delve into the inner workings of these facilities, exploring matters related to government funding, facility management, and overall care standards. His primary goal was to identify opportunities for enhancing the quality of life for the residents.

In response to these visits, Skerrit initiated direct channels of communication between the Ministry of Social Services and the administration of these homes. This strategic move aims to foster extensive dialogues, tackle specific concerns, and craft comprehensive recommendations for government intervention.

Skerrit voiced his optimism, emphasizing that the issues and requests raised by these institutions are indeed manageable. According to him, it’s merely a question of refining the finer details. He firmly believes that by joining forces, both the Grotto Home and the Dominica Infirmary can elevate their standards of care for residents.

The Prime Minister took a moment to acknowledge the unwavering dedication of the management teams and board members overseeing these institutions. He lauded their commitment to maintaining clean, nurturing environments, ensuring the well-being of residents, and providing wholesome meals.

As part of his commitment to enhancing elderly care, Skerrit has scheduled visits to other similar facilities, including ‘The House of Hope.’ These forthcoming visits will address a range of challenges, encompassing concerns about the physical infrastructure and various operational aspects.

Accompanied by a Cabinet delegation, these visits fostered discussions on administrative hurdles, wage disbursements, and the effectiveness of the Board of Directors at the Grotto Home for the Homeless. In response, Skerrit pledged the government’s unwavering support in addressing existing challenges, underscoring his dedication to advancing elderly care in Dominica.
