Q95FM Radio Station Threatened As Fire Damages Two Buildings in Roseau

The building that houses Q95FM radio station in Roseau narrowly escaped a fire incident when two nearby buidings were engulfed in fire. The incident, which occurred on Saturday, wreaked significant havoc on the affected buildings but firemen were able to put out the fire before it could get out of hand.

The fire incident occurred at the intersection of Old Street and Hanover Street where the two affected buildings are situated, and very close to Q95FM station. The fire started around 3 pm and it took the prompt intervention of firemen and brave neighbours to put it out.

Jacqueline Prevost, the landlady of one of the damaged building, said the attic and roof of her two-storey property were destroyed by the fire. The top floor of the building is unoccupied but received significant licks from the fire, but the ground floor which is a restaurant is unaffected since firemen arrived on time.

Prevost thanked God that no lives was lost in the fire incident, and declared that she will bounce back to economic health even though the building was not insured. According to her, Job in the Bible suffered a greater loss but still recovered all.

The second building is owned by Garraway Enterprises which uses the ground floor for their spare-parts business. Historical authorities said the building was constructed by the French for a prison facility in the 1740s before the British constructed a bigger facility in 1781 and which now houses the police headquarters.

The Garraway Enterprises building’s top floor is occupied by a family who revealed that three children were quickly removed from the building before the fire became more serious. The family reported that the fire impacted the spare-parts storeroom of Garraway and inflicted significant damage.

“From what we have seen thus far, I can report major damages to the contents of the storeroom,” they said. “Whenever you have a fire it is always a major loss to everyone…but like everything, we will pick up the pieces and bounce back.”

While Q95FM was not affected by the fire incident, the radio station suffered temporary power outage during the mishap.
