Red Cross Holds One Week Training On Logistics and Disaster Management
The Dominica Red Cross (DRC) holds one week training on logistics and disaster management. The purpose of the skill acquisition programme is to empower disaster managers at responding and containing situations during natural disasters. It is to strengthen the capacity of response teams at handling logistics when emergency situation arises.
The training was organized with the participation of the French Red Cross PIRAC, The European Union Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid (ECHO), and The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescents (IFRC). The event was part of the National Societies Logistics Capacities Enhancement Program for efficient Disaster Management in the Caribbean.
The Red Cross National Societies will be empowered to better handle external aids, improve logistics management plans, foster human and material response capacities, as well as enhance the monitoring and integration abilities of the national societies. The entire eight branches of the DRC was part of the training, since the regulating body plans to establish warehouses for prepositioning relief materials at each branch.
Participants revealed that they learnt warehouse logistics and how to use the appropriate forms for receiving and distributing goods when called upon to do so. Although the DRC Logistics and Warehouse unit co-facilitated the training, a logistics software will be shared with all partners to promote better management of relief materials received in Dominica.
The DRC thanked ECHO and PIRAC for their support and appreciated donors everywhere for enabling the humanitarian agency to discharge its duties efficiently.
