Ronald Charles Questions Distribution of Housing in Roseau
Senator Ronald Charles questions the distribution of housing in Roseau and demands for financial accountability over their construction. The senator said the manner in which the government gives out the housing in Roseau Valley to people is not transparent, calling for accountability on how much was spent to construct the entire project.
Charles asked Dr. Collin McIntyre, the DLP’s parliamentary representative for Roseau Valley, to explain how much the government spent to execute the housing project, and the rationale behind the distribution to people. According to Charles, the government is not entirely open on the whole project; and the way people of Roseau Valley are treated as second-class citizens because they have dire need for the housing.
“I’m very much concerned; very much disturbed by the way in which housing assistance is given by the government to the people of the Roseau Valley,” Senator Charles said. “Over the past, there had been some assistance given to a few persons in the Roseau Valley. This year I will like to ask the parliamentary representative, Dr. Collin McIntyre, how much money was allocated to the Roseau Valley for housing assistance. Because what disturbs me is, it appears to be almost comical that we in the Roseau Valley are treated like almost second-class citizens.”
The senator said he is certain that all money for the project came from the Trafalgar Village Council, and wanted to know why other village councils have not been recognized for their contributions to the overall project.
