The Rotary Club of Dominica celebrated its 45th Saphire Charter Anniversary. The event held at the Fort Young Hotel where current and new members celebrated all the club had achieved over the decades. Founding members and past presidents of the club were in attendance, and floor members testified to the many benefits of belonging to the charity organization.
The Rotarians highlighted some of the projects executed by the club over the years, as well as those currently in progress. These include –
- Construction of a psychiatric department at the Princess Margaret Hospital
- VOSH Eye Care mission
- Starkey Hearing mission
- Dominica State College scholarships
- Literacy Quiz and Fair
- Carnival Souse and Punch
- Donations to the Grotto Home for the Homeless
- Donations to the Home for the Aged
- Establishing Dominica Timbers when Hurricane David occurred
- Others such as bus shelters, playgrounds, and public toilets, etc.
Three new members were inducted into the Rotary Club during the anniversary celebrations. These are –
- Davis David – a banker and former member of the Rotaract Club of Roseau,
- Merlinda Francois – a business and career consultant
- Katia Lazare Pascal – a finance executive
The organizers also conducted the Charter Night Raffle whichis a frequent feature of the club’s annual celebrations. The three top winners won fantastic prizes which include a trip to a neighbouring country and lodging at top resorts. The raffle winners are –
- Constantine Blanc of Marigot – 1st prize – a trip for two to Martinique, compliments of Network Trading Inc.
- Mrs. Alice Jacob of Canefield – 2nd prize – a night for two at Atlantique View Resort, compliments of Atlantique View Resort
- Elijah David of Grand Bay – 3rd prize – a day at Body Bliss Spa, compliments of Body Bliss Spa
Attendees expressed their joy at the event, and rededicated themselves to the progress and growth of the Rotary Club of Dominica in the years ahead.
