Rotary Club Partners to Refurbish Bay Oil Distilleries in Dominica
As part of its ongoing commitment to economic development, the Rotary Club of Dominica have, partnered with the Dominica Essentials Oil & Spices Cooperative to refurbish two (2) bay oil distilleries in Delices and Petite Savanne.
During the month of November, the Club conducted community needs assessment to gather pertinent information that will assist in the development and execution of the project. The Club has met with the Board of the DEOSC as well as community leaders, farmers, distilleries, and community residents of Delice, La Plaine, Bagatelle, Fond St. Jean and Petite Savanne.
The scope of the project will include the refurbishment of two distilleries which have been damaged during Tropical Storm Erika and Hurricane Maria. The Club will also provide support for training in distilling, improved farming techniques and conversion of raw materials.
This is an extensive project which has the potential to have significant impact on the communities by improving their standard of living. We wish to give the residents an opportunity that will benefit generations to come. This project has great economic potential for the communities and Dominica as a whole and we are happy to partner with the Cooperative on this venture.
