Sagicor cleans up Purple Turtle Beach in Second year of “The Sagicor Blue Project”
Throughout the Caribbean, the conservation and protection of our beaches and marine life have been major topics of discussion and concern for decades. For this reason, Sagicor has launched the second round of its coastal clean-up initiative, “The Sagicor Blue Project” bringing team members together to clean-up select beaches in several of its operating territories.
On the last in May, the team gathered at Purple Turtle Beach to clean up the beachfront. They also cut and painted barrels to be used to collect garbage in the hope that this would also decrease the urge to litter.
Joining the Sagicor team for the Saturday project were colleagues from the Whitchurch Agency and students from the Dominica State College who all left Roseau on that sunny Saturday morning to head up north to the Purple Turtle Beach.

It was a busy day for the 40 volunteers who cleaned up Purple Turtle Beach. In addition to collecting about 50 large garbage bags of rubbish, the team also prepped and painted three barrels which are to be used as bins.
We are extremely grateful to the students that spent that Saturday with us as it just shows that we all have a hand in caring for this beautiful island we call home. Last year we cleaned Donkey Beach and we’ll definitely be participating in 2024.

In addition to Dominica, Sagicor teams will visit beaches in Antigua, Barbados and Trinidad.
This project was initiated by the company in 2022, with team members collecting over 4,500 pounds of garbage and debris from beaches in four of its operating territories. That effort was supported by local conservation entities in each country, such as the Caribbean Youth Environment Network (CYEN), who would have assisted with the sorting and weighing of the waste collected.
Our beaches are a source of relaxation and recreation for our people and the tourists who contribute significantly to several of our economies. They are also home for many species of our wildlife, and not to mention, a significant source of food and income for us as human beings. Indiscriminate dumping is a major problem that negatively impacts all of us, and therefore cannot be left unchecked.
Over the years we have sponsored and participated in several beach clean-ups, but starting last year,
