Savarin Invites 146 Kids to Xmas Party; FCCA Give Gifts to 200 Children
President Charles Savarin through the Charities Foundation has invited 146 children to a Christmas party. The party will be coming up at the State House on Saturday, December 14. The children that will be partying with the president and his wife are from Grand Fond, Morne Jaune, Riviere Cyrique, La Plaine, Boetica and Delices south-east area of the island.
Aged 5 to 12, the children will sing Christmas carols and hymns and play various games and then receive gifts from Santa Claus.
The President’s Charities Foundation has been hosting disadvantaged children to a Christmas party for the past 15 years, and parents are often delighted that their children can wine and dine with the president himself.
In the same spirit of Christmas, the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) will be hosting 200 children and presenting them with gifts as part of its Holiday Gift Project. The association has been doing this for about 20 years and they give gifts to children across 15 marine destinations which include the Caribbean and Latin America.
The annual event is coordinated by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture together with Discover Dominica Authority (DDA). About 200 primary school students from Goodwill, Newtown, and St. Martin’s will be receiving Christmas gifts this time around. Local partners of the event include Combined Taxi, Dawn Symes, J. Astaphan and company ltd, Whitchurch IGA, Starring and Sons and Spring Filed Trading.
HHV Whitchurch, a FCCA platinum member, was involved in this year’s activities. Marketing manager Michelle Joseph said she is happy that FCCA could touch children’s lives again during this festive season and credited the association with going above board to meet the basic needs of children during Christmas period.
“Christmas is a time of joy, giving and receiving…and this presentation of over two hundred gifts this morning exemplifies this reason for the season,” Joseph said. “The FCCA has gone over and beyond their call of duty to engage in meaningful corporate social responsibility. It is our hope that more organisations will mirror their actions and give back to the areas of society that not only support them, but those that are unable to.”
