Security Minister Rayburn Blackmoore Says Fire Department Has 17 Ambulances
Given the many criticisms posted on social media that there are not enough ambulances in Dominica, the National Security Minister, Rayburn Blackmoore, has come out to defend the government on the matter. Blackmoore said there are 17 ambulances in the country and that each of the seven health districts on the island has a fully-equipped, functional ambulance.
According to the security minister, at no other time in history does Dominica have the current number of ambulances that it has at the moment. He credited the Skerrit-led administration for equiping the fire deparment and healthcare sector with all the ambulances and logistical resources they require to function at optimal levels.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security, Jo-Anne Commodore, praised the fire and health officers in Dominica for giving all their best to save lives and property during the COVID-19 pandemic and wildfires that occur in the country. Speaking at the Fire Brigade Headquarters during an award-giving ceremony to fire service personnel, Commodore stated that fire officers stood in gap for the people when they faced the worst crisis ever from the pandemic.
Meanwhile, Fire Chief Josiah Dupuis, urged fire officers to understand the fact that the fire service is a calling and more than a mere job. He stated that working in the fire service is a divine mandate and that officers should quit seeing their job as only a salary-earning occupation. He also called on the government to empower the fire department more, stating that fire service must be atop all occupational and environmental changes happening within the country.
