Seven of the Total 16 COVID-19 Patients Recover and Get Discharged
Seven of the total 16 COVID-19 patients in Dominica are fully recovered and have been discharged from hospital. This was revealed by Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit who announced that the remaining nine patients are doing fine and will be released as soon as they are cured of their coronavirus infection.
Five persons had been cured of the disease initially, and the new two recovered patients bring the total number of cured and discharged patients to seven. These persons tested negative to new tests twice within the last 24 hours before they were discharged.
Health Minister Irvning McIntyre said three patients at St. James health center in Portsmouth and another one at the Dominica-China Friendship Hospital may be discharged later when second tests come back negative for them. They had tested negative for their first tests and must test negative the second time before they could be considered cured of COVID-19 and discharged to their families.
According to the Ministery of Health, Wellness, and New Health Investment, the following is the latest statistics for coronavirus events in Dominica:
- Total confirmed cases – 16
- Total active cases – 9
- Total recovered – 7
- Total COVID-19 deaths – 0
- Total persons tested – 324
- Number of negative results – 308
- Number of contacts identified – 138
- Number of contacts cleared – 113
- Contacts under investigation – 25
- People in GOCD quarantine – 36
Government agencies and law enforcement officials continue to urge people to stay at home, observe social distancing, maintain proper hygiene, and keep on with handwashing among other recommended preventative measures.
