The government has confirmed the appointment of Sherma Dalrymple as the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) in Dominican. Dalrymple served as the acting DPP for two years before her permanent appointment earlier this week. The Minister of National Security, Rayburn Blackmoore, congratulated the new DPP on her permanent appointment.
I want to…congratulate Miss Sherma Dalrymple on her recent permanent appointment to the office of Director of Public Prosecutions. Miss Dalrymple certainly is a great technician at what she does, and therefore, her permanent appointment will bring stability to that office, which is key to the overall administration of justice.

Dalrymple graduated from the Hugh Wooding Law School and was called to the bar in Dominica in 2009. She was employed as a state attorney at the office of the attorney-general, but later became a state prosecutor in the office of the DPP in 2012. She was appointed as acting DPP in 2021 after the exit of former DPP Evelina Baptiste who held the post from 2013-2021.
Dalrymple lectures corporate and partnership law at the Dominica State College (DSC). She also serves as a director at the National Development Foundation, and as a member of the Dominica Air and Sea Port licensing board. In recent times, she has been working to eliminate gun trafficking and gun violence in the country through relevant legislation.
Twelve prison officers also had their appointments confirmed within the week, said national security minister. Blackmoore said the 12 correctional officers had been working in acting capacity for some time before their permanent appointment was ratified. The confirmed appointments were one an assistant superintendent of prison, two principal officers, three senior prison officers, and six prison officers.
“I want on behalf of the government of Dominica, to congratulate those prison officers and wish them well. It is also my hope that they will redouble their efforts on the job,” Blackmoore stated.
