Skerrit and Austrie Speak On the 17 Resilient Houses in Canefield East
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit and Minister for Housing and Urban Development Reginald Austrie were in Canefield East earlier this week. Skerrit and Austrie and other government officials were in Canefield to inspect 17 resilient homes that are being constructed in the area. The government said the construction is part of the housing revolution being carried out by the DLP administration in partnership with Montreal Management Consultants Est. (MMCE).
Apart from the 17 ongoing housing development in Canefield East, Skerrit said the initiative will extend to Checkhall, Warner, Campbell, Scottshead, Paix bouche, Woodfordhill, Portsmouth, Vieille Case, Penville, Canefield East, Cottage, Portsmouth, and Trafalgar among others. He said 44 houses are currently being constructed in Dubique and 62 in Grandbay while other residents of Mahaut can hope to be housed soon.
Skerrit said the houses in Mahaut Constituency will have underground telephone and electrical lines, and the community will enjoy corollary services such as a town centre, basketball court, and football field among others. He added that a total of 162 houses are currently undergoing construction across the country, and more will be added until most Dominicans have decent houses of their own.
While expressing satisfaction with the housing development in Canefield East, Housing Minister Austrie said the government remains committed to the accommodation welfare of all Dominican citizens. He said the DLP administration will not be deterred by the overwhelming criticisms from the opposition, saying they serve to serve to spur the government on to greater exploits. Residents of Mahaut community also expressed gratitude for the houses and thanked PM Skerrit for all he is doing for the country.
