Skerrit Attributes UWP’s Boycott of Elections as God’s Blessing in Disguise
PM Roosevelt Skerrit has attributed the UWP’s withdrawal from the December 6 snap elections as God’s blessings in disguise. He said God orchestrated the move to weed out the unpleasant influences of the UWP from Dominican politics. He emphasized that it is God’s divine arrangement to implement a national reset that goes beyond the whims of individual persons in the country.
The Lord works in mysterious ways, and sometimes we don’t see it as visibly as we should. But the Lord wants to have as part of the national reset greater unity in our country…removing this political tribalism and hate that exist in our country. This is why when the Workers’ party said they are boycotting elections…no, this is the Lord’s work. The Lord has said He does not want these kinds of people in Parliament in Dominica anymore.
Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister of Dominica
But while the prime minister continues to see the UWP’s boycott of the coming elections as a blessing, the opposition party under the new leadership of Dr. Thomson Fontaine has planned to carry out a national rally and a candlelight vigil to protest the election. The UWP and a coalition of other opposition parties have also called on President Charles Savarin to revoke the writ for the snap election until electoral reforms and new voters ID are implemented.
Skerrit, however, blames the opposition for failing to be their brothers’ keeper and for inciting disunity in Dominica.
The Workers’ party has brother against brother and sister against brother, that’s not right. Dominica is too small for us not to be talking to each other, Let us embrace people; we do not have to agree all the time, but we have to respect each other.
Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister of Dominica
The DLP candidate for Salybia Constituency, Cozier Frederick, who was present when Skerrit made the remarks, urged people everywhere to step out in masses to vote for the ruling party on December 6. He also implored the people of Salybia to vote for him to enable him continue the good works that he has started.
I need your vote on December 6, to continue the work that I started, to ensure that everyone within that space gets proper housing, good road network, social infrastructure, free education, and care for the elderly among others.
Cozier Frederick, DLP candidate for Salybia Constituency
