Skerrit Highlights Tourism and Economic Benefits of International Airport
In furtherance of his pursuits to construct an international airport in Dominica, PM Roosevelt Skerrit revealed that the objective remains a top priority in the economic agenda of the government because of its development potentials. The DLP leader said the construction of the airport will enhance the economic growth and cultural development of the country in ways that will benefit the generations to come.
With the completion of the international airport, Skerrit said thousands of tourists from around the world will begin to visit Dominica because of the spectacular natural attractions on the island. He said the natural waterfalls, hot springs, and winding rivers as well as hot air vents on the island remain the best and most rewarding tourist experience in the Caribbean.
“There are not many countries that can talk about waterfalls and hot springs and rivers the way we’re talking about, and the Waitukubuli national trail and the many other trails and the many other attractions that we have in Dominica,” Skerrit explained. “Our serenity, our beauty, our safety, and our improvements in health care would provide adequate health services to our visitors and tourists.”
With the increase in the number of visitors to Dominica comes an increase in hotel occupancy rates across the country, the prime minister said. He further disclosed that direct flights from North America, Europe, and private jets will be landing in the country on account of what the island has to offer in terms of tourism packages.
Skerrit added that the tourism and hospitality industry in the country will receive a boom following the launch of the airport, and that this will raise the standard of living for all Dominicans. He said the economic boost will be seen in education, law enforcement, job creation, social welfare, and comprehensive healthcare among others.
