Skerrit Says Captain of Yacht Responsible for Missing French lady, Marion Hermier

PM Roosevelt Skerrit has weighed in on the disappearance of 26-year-old French lady, Marion Hermier, in Dominica. Hermier reportedly arrived to Dominica aboard a French yacht on February 4 and proceeded to hike the Waitukubuli National Trail. The vessel departed Dominican shores on February 9 without Hermier, and she has not been seen since then.

While the police and volunteers have scoured Scotts-Head in the south to Capuchin in the north – the trajectory of the Waitukubuli National Trail – Skerrit said foul play should not be ruled out in her disappearance. He said the captain of the yacht that brought her to Dominica should be held responsible – after receiving information that the vessel is now in Guadeloupe.

I think that while we are making efforts to search for the young lady here, it is difficult to search for her if we don’t know the particular area she went into hiking and I don’t think we should rule out foul play. So I think that this yacht and the yacht captain, who are now in Guadeloupe, or heading to Europe, should be held by the French authorities to give answers as to where the crew member has gone.

Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister of Dominica

The prime minister said the government continues to collaborate with the French authorities to locate Hermier and reunite her with her family. He also alerted the Dominican police force to intensify efforts to locate her and bring her case to a closure. “We do hope and pray that she is safe somewhere and that she could be located whether in Dominica or Guadeloupe,” he stated.

In a related vein, Skerrit said his administration has not given up on locating 13-year-old missing Kernisha Etienne who went missing last year. He said the police may have called off the search for the missing schoolgirl, but her case remains open and ongoing. He called on the general public to work underground to secure the girl and restore her with her family.

Kernisha went missing on June 7, 2022, in Warner when she was abducted by her uncle, Keyan Alexander. Keyan allegedly stabbed Kernisha’s parents before kidnapping her and she has remained missing since then. The police found Keyan, who was said to be mentally unstable, 11 days after Kernisha’s disappearance; and he was fatally shot during a violent interaction. Keyan is dead, but Kernisha remains missing for almost 10 months now.
