PM Roosevelt Skerrit has promised that children aged 2-5 years will enjoy free education in the coming administration. He said the incoming DLP government will provide young children with early childhood preschool education to give them a good headstart in life. He added that his government takes early education seriously, and that it will do everything in its power to ensure that all children in Dominica obtain the best qualitative education.
Speaking at the launching ceremony of Miriam Blanchard as the DLP candidate for Roseau North on Thursday, Skerrit said his government will overhaul education in Dominica to be at par with that of the best countries in the world. According to him, qualitative education will prepare Dominica and Dominicans to confront the many challenges they may encounter in the future.
We understand the importance of education at all levels…we are saying to the children, to the parents of children between two and five years: every one of you will have access to early childhood and preschool education in Dominica, paid for by the government of Dominica.

In furtherance of qualitative education in the country, the prime minister also said the government will pursue vocational skills development through technical education. He noted that technical vocational skills are required to sustain the many investments the government is making across Dominica. He stressed that without a grounded technical skill, the country will be at a disadvantage in technology infrastructure.
He equally revealed his plans to fully restore the Goodwill Secondary School (GSS) in 2023. He said the school was damaged during Hurricane Maria in 2017 and is one of the six schools earmarked for reconstruction early next year. He stated that the school will be the pride of everyone when it is completed, and that particular attention will be paid to the vocational-technical section of the facility.
