The Minister of Tourism of Saudi Arabia, Ahmed Al Khateeb, was in Dominica on Monday. The visiting Saudi official met with PM Roosevelt Skerrit at the Kempinski Hotel where they discussed areas of bilateral interests between the Commonwealth of Dominica and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Skerrit said Al Khateeb is the highest Saudi official to ever visit Dominica on government business. He said the visit is indicative of the growing relationship between Saudi Arabia and Dominica, noting that it suggests potential collaboration and mutual cooperation between the two countries.
This is the first visit of a high-ranking official to Dominica; so it is a good indication of the seriousness and the sincerity of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in advancing bilateral relations with Dominica. As I indicated, there are a number of areas, including infrastructure, tourism, and agriculture, which we believe that we can collaborate with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister of Dominica
The Dominican Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Kenneth Darroux, said Al Khateeb was in Dominica in response to the country’s push for wider international relations. He said the DLP administration had been working behind the scenes to extend its frontiers beyond the Caribbean region, and that it is beginning to bear fruits with the visit of the Saudi Arabia minister of tourism.
This is another progressive move by the government of Dominica. One of the policies has always been to try to extend our bilateral relations beyond some of the traditional boundaries that we have known. This is one of the progressive ways that this administration is looking to bring about development to this country.
Dr. Kenneth Darroux, Minister for Foreign Affairs
