Smaller but More Technologically-Advanced Fire Vehicle Donated to Grand Bay

A smaller but more technologically-advanced fire-fighting vehicle has been donated to the fire service department in Grand Bay. The new fire vehicle was donated by National Security Minister, Rayburn Blackmoore, who hinted that the truck costs almost EC$300,000.

Blackmooredisclosed that he will continue to be of assistance to the fire department to enable them serve the community more effectively, and that the vehicle will aid fire officers in the discharge of their duties.

Fire Chief Josiah Dupuis thanked the government for the new fire vehicle and consented that it will greatly be of service to the fire department. He compared the vehicle to a “first-aid fire-fighting unit,” adding that it can carry a little over 200 litres of water. He said the new vehicle is not as big as the regular water-tanker vehicle usually used by fire fighters, but features better fire-fighting capabilities.

According to Dupuis, the new fire-fighting vehicle has an improved water-pumping system and delivers water in a defused form. The fire chief also revealed that the new vehicle cools down the temperature of water so as to quickly reduce the potency of fire outbreaks. With the improved water pumping system and water cooler technology, the new fire service is more effective at fighting conflagrations than conventional fire trucks, Dupuis stated.

To add to the effectiveness of the new fire vehicle, Dupuis stated that the vehicle will easily access restricted areas that larger fire trucks cannot get into, and that this will facilitate fire operations in restricted local communities.  He also charged fire officers to make the best use of the vehicle and not abuse it in any way.
