Special Olympics Team Gearing For Success in Germany in June; Funding Needed

The Special Olympics team in Dominica is gearing up to participate in the forthcoming Olympics Games in Berlin, Germany. According to the national director of the Special Olympics game in the country, Ainsworth Irish, the team is currently training hard to win as many top medals as possible in the global competition coming up in June.

Irish said the team participated in the 2015 World Games in California and the 2019 competition in Dubai. He recalled that the team won several gold and bronze medals in the United States, and those that went to Dubai also returned home with medals. He said the team will replicate and even better those performances in Germany this year. He asked for support and encouragement from players and members of the public towards the tournament in June.

The national director also said a number of game officials will be travelling with the athletes to Germany. He said the team is currently sourcing for funding to make the trip possible and hopes the government will give the necessary assistance to make this possible. He added that the officials and athletes look forward to making Dominica proud with the highest possible number of medals to be won.
