Sports Minister Justina Charles who was the wife of the later Prime Minister Pierre Charles who led Dominica from October 2000 to January 6th2004 but died in office of a heart attack on January 6th, 2004 is now married to deputy fire Chief Farley Riviere.
The ceremony took place at the National Shrine of Our Lady of La Salette in Pointe Michel with Grand Bay Parish priest Fr. Brankar John as the celebrant.
In attendance were government minister Catherine Daniel and Dr. Kenneth Darroux along with Magistrate Asquith Riviere. The reception was held at the Old Mill Cultural Center in Canefield.
In his homily, Fr. Brankar said that despite what being is said “marriage is still God’s gift to humanity.”
“Marriage is still a sacred thing; a holy thing…marriage is a partnership a holy partnership of God,” he said. He encouraged the couple to “live their marriage well.”
“I encourage you and exhort you to live your lives well, because if you do, you will see all the good signs of God,” he said.
He called on them “to put God first in everything and trust each other always.”
“For a relationship to be successful, there has to be trust…if I don’t trust you and you don’t trust me then it means nothing because the relationship will deteriorate , of course you will have differences for you are human, so I encourage you to trust each other,” Fr. Brankar stated.
He continued, “Pray, pray, pray, pray together as a team and put God first in everything that you all do for without God nothing is possible.”
The wedding took place while the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) was holding its political rally in Grand Fond launching its candidate Gretta Roberts. Justina will not be contesting the next general elections constitutionally due in 2020 but which is widely expected to be called soon. She has been the DLP candidate in the Grand Bay constituency for the past ten years but will be replaced by Edward Registe.
It must be noted that family members formed a human shield around her and even made threats to prevent the press present from getting photos.
