Sukie Burn Brain Sentenced to Six Months in Grenadian Prison for Indecent Assault

A Grenadian magistrate sentenced Sukie Burn Brain (Shane Edwards) to 6 months imprisonment after he was accused of touching a 15-year-old Guyanese living in Canada who was a guest at a resort on the south of the island, the same resort in which Sukie was a guest. Sukie was detained and pleaded guilty to the charge of indecent attack on a minor.

Sukie was set to perform in a concert at the Grenada National Cricket Stadium on Saturday 26th but was unable to as he was arrested the night before and was not released. He was taken to St George’s magistrate on Monday 28th morning and was refused bail. Sukie was sent to Richmond Hill prison, where he was remanded until December 1st.

The Prosecution Dept, Royal Grenada Police Force was able to present evidence on the matter on the 1st of December. Sukie’s lawyer, Jerry Edwin, brought the matter back to court for further deliberations. Grenada’s Criminal Code defines an “indecent attack” as any assault committed under circumstances of indecency. It is a simple offense and can be punished with up to 5 years in prison.

After pleading guilty, Edwin said Sukie apologized to the court, the victim, and her parents for his inappropriate behavior. Also, according to sentencing standards, the minimum sentence that the defendant will receive is nine (9) months. However, the court ordered a reduction and Sukie will spend the next six months in Richmond Hill Prison in St George’s, Grenada.
