Taylor and Henry Power West Indies Women to ODI Series Win Over Ireland
In a stunning finish to the CG United One Day International series, West Indies Women secured a 2-0 victory over Ireland. The final match, held at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in St. Lucia, saw the West Indies Women outperform their rivals by 6 wickets.
Ireland, batting first, amassed a total of 203 before being bowled out in 50 overs. Gaby Lewis led the Irish side with an impressive 95 not out off 121 deliveries. She shared a crucial 50-run partnership with Cara Murray, helping stabilize the innings following early wicket losses. In retaliation, Afy Fletcher and Shamilia Connell effectively restrained Ireland’s batting side.
West Indies Women, however, started their innings on a shaky note. Nonetheless, the team found its saviour in Stafanie Taylor, who expertly navigated the pressure to score her 40th ODI half-century.
Taylor’s steady innings found support in Chinelle Henry’s performance, who marked her second consecutive half-century. The duo compiled a match-winning 104-run partnership that secured their team a 6-wicket victory with 8.4 overs to spare.
Stafanie Taylor was rightfully honoured as the Player of the Match for her crucial 79 not out, while Hayley Matthews was awarded the Player of the Series for her commendable all-round display. Looking forward, the teams are set to compete in a three-match T20 International series starting Tuesday at the same venue.
