The Ministry of Agriculture holding two Forest Resources Workshops

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries, Project Implementation Unit (PIU) of the World Bank-funded Emergency Agricultural Livelihoods and Climate Resilience Project in collaboration with the Forestry, Wildlife, and National Parks Division, will be holding two workshops to finalize the components of the Global Environment Facility 7 (GEF7) project.

The first workshop will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2019, at the Pastoral Centre at Morne Bruce. The second workshop, targeting specifically the peoples of the Kalinago Territory will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2019, at the Kalinago Barana Aute in Salybia.

The main objective of the GEF 7 project is to maximize the development benefits from forest resources in Dominica.

The objectives of the workshops are to:

  1. Discuss the potentials of Dominica’s Forest contribution to national development.
  2. Enable the evaluation of issues affecting Forest related economic activities and;
  3. Identify opportunities, including viable investment opportunities and approaches to improve the contribution of Forestry to the national economy.

Topics for discussion will include:

  • Forest Resources of Dominica and its Contribution to Dominica’s Economy
  • Forest-based Tourism in Dominica- product and marketing needs
  • The World Bank and Forests in Dominica- Experience and Options

Facilitators of the workshop are from the World Bank, Forestry Wildlife and Parks Division and from Discover Dominica Authority. At the end of the consultation, a project document will be developed for submission to the GEF secretariat.
