The DLP administration has endowed 10 families in Cochrane with new houses on Tuesday. PM Roosevelt Skerrit said the houses were given to the families for free as the government’s investments in the people. He said the new homeowners can give the houses away to their children or even bequeth them to upcoming generations.
I want to say to you, the beneficiaries, that these homes belong to you; this is a gift to you, an investment in you and your family by this government You can pass it on to your children. It is an asset…when you are writing your Will, you have something to put in your Will for your children.
Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister of Dominica
According to the prime minister, the new homeowners had nothing to their names before Tuesday morning, but by Tuesday afternoon they all became landlords. He said the houses give the beneficiaries a portion of Dominica which they can call their own forever, and that piece of the country can also be legally transferred to their children.
In his speech at the home giveaway ceremony, health minister Dr. Irving McIntyre said the houses were constructed with CBI funds and that the people must always appreciate this fact. The parliamentary representative for Roseau Valley Constituency said the DLP government is able to finance the construction of free resilient housing, roads, bridges, schools, hotels, and other capital infrastructure with CBI funds.
You must appreciate the fact that you are not paying for these houses and it is your Labour Party government that is doing it for you; but where does your Labour Party government get this money? It is from the CBI Program. This is why you have to defend and protect our CBI program.
Dr. Irving McIntyre, Minister for Health, Wellness and New Health Investment
He noted that all Dominicans must defend and protect the CBI programme because of the economic prosperity it has brought to the country, and the fact that it attracts huge capital investments into Dominica.
