Thomas Letang Condemns Blind Allegiance to the DLP Administration

Dominica Public Service Union (DPSU) general secretary, Thomas Letang, has condemned the level of blind allegiance that people have towards the ruling DLP administration. Letang said the undivided and unquestioning loyalty that people have for the government is not healthy and will not make for a progressive nation.

According to the DPSU general secretary, the ruling government will even ultimately be hurt by the blind loyalty people demonstrate towards it since this will blind the government to its performance level and ruling errors. Letang also urged Dominicans to be open to constructive criticisms in areas of public functions, work ethics, financial management, and general attitudes among others. He also warned people against hypocrisy since this is not beneficial to anyone.

In a related development, Letang bemoaned the decline of the middle class in the present-day Dominica, adding that he has ample data at his fingertips to prove that the bourgeoisie class is diminishing in the country.

He also made reference to the empty assurance of the government of having enough money to pay 1% salary increase to public workers. Letang said one member of the government’s negotiating team confessed to the DPSU that the treasury is not bouyant enough to pay civil servants the promised 1% salary increase for the entire triennium even though the government boasts there is enough money to make the payments.
