Thomson Fontaine Beats Clement Marcellin With 44 Votes to Emerge UWP Leader
Dr. Thomson Fontaine beat Clement Marcellin with 44 votes to emerge as the new political leader of the United Workers Party. Fontaine polled 127 123 votes and Marcellin polled 79 votes during the UWP delegates conference which held at the Goodwill Parish Hall on Sunday. A total of 204 votes were cast but two were rejected.
Both Fontaine and Marcellin were the only contenders for the position of political leader. But following the victory of Fontaine, Marcellin was elected to become the new deputy political leader of the opposition party. Marcellin and Annette Sanford contested for the position of deputy political leader, but Marcellin polled 142 votes over Sanford’s 54 votes.
Former political leader and opposition parliamentarian, Lennox Linton, was unanimously elected as the new UWP president, while former acting political leader Francesca Joseph became the new vice-president. The other contenders that emerged as winners in the UWP executive elections are:

- Diane Victor – Assistant Secretary
- Ezekeil Bazil – Treasurer
- Kent Joseph – Assistant Treasurer
- Tehillah Bannis – Public Relations Officer –
- Dr. McDonald Thomas – International Secretary –
The trustees for the UWP are Edison James, Norris Prevost, Ron Green, and E. JnoFinn.
